I am working with a couple companies to improve boots for women but this question is for everyone. I was curious what are the most important things you look for in a boot?
I personally have tiny feet and thick calves so I only get one option for boots. Is it the soles? Colors? Reputation of the brand? Etc
I've tried alot of brands, all boots have pros and cons, what I've found:
-Fox boots plastic clips tend to break
-Alpinestar makes amazing boots but if you don't by the high end, they don't offer much protection, I've broken toes because of this.
-Gaerne boot clips are held by screws that will get loose and have to be tightened or lock tighted
-Sidi boots are probably my favourite so far with proper clips and the soles that are interchangeable
Thats very thorough! Thank you!!! I want to try the Gaerne and Sidi so bad!!! Maybe one day!
I didnt know the soles were interchangeable!

Sidi for sure! They even have a soul for enduro that is grippy
Along with price, reputation for functionality and durability are my primary concern when buying boots. Colorways are cool too, but I just wear a black boot. They will match any combination of gear.
I like my entry-level Gaerne GX-1, but they do have some flaws. They squeak insanely loud! Thanks to the advice of Tobin Miller, I solved that issue by spraying some Tusk chain lube in the ankle pivot point. That squeak is now non-existant. They are comfy, broke in quick, and have saved my feet from broken toes or ankles several times. I like their metal buckle system. I also love the wider toe box. My toes don't feel as if they are on top of each like I have experienced with cheaper boots in the past. They seem to be waterproof unless I submerge my boot for an extended period of time. For the price, (I am on an extremely limited budget) I am happy with my purchase.
I would like to try out a high end boot that is a little lighter with a memory foam liner like the Jarvis edition SG22. I like their enduro sole and how it's flat versus having a heel. I would also like to test the Sidi Crossfire 3 TA boots also, but they have a narrower toe box and Euro sizing. Those could prevent issues since I wear a size 13. 12.5 is the closest size I have seen but they may work.

Thanks! I try to share my experiences with products to help others make decisions on their protective and riding gear purchases. I plan on posting a very detailed Plews Tough One Spec B review with different hourly interval photos of the lifespan of the tire. I have over 20 hours on it so far. If it continues to wear at the rate it currently is, I'll get 50+ hours out of it! I don't spin my tire, though.
