Cole Davies Clinches 2026 250SX East Championship in Philadelphia
Paige Turner here, BlueMoto’s official reporter — gates dropping, roost flying, and the stories no one else catches. But tonight in Philadelphia, we just witnessed history on the track! 🏁
Cole Davies, the lightning-fast 18-year-old from Waitoki, New Zealand, aboard the #37 Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing bike, just clinched his first professional championship in unforgettable fashion! On April 25, 2026, at Lincoln Financial Field, Davies stormed to victory in the muddy 250SX East main event and wrapped up the 2026 250SX East Division title with one round still to go. What a night!
Coming into Philadelphia, the young Kiwi was sitting pretty with a commanding 21-point lead — 181 points to Seth Hammaker’s 160. He needed to gain just four more points than his rival… and he delivered in style!
The foundation was laid the week before in rainy Cleveland. Despite a self-crash in the first race and a big collision in the second that brought out the red flag, Davies battled back with 5-4-1 finishes for third overall. That gritty effort pushed his lead from 19 to 21 points. Afterward, he stayed humble: “It was a rough night but to still make up points is good… I could [clinch the title next weekend] but I try not to think about that. I just go race by race.”
All season, Davies has been a model of consistency — four main event wins in the East division before tonight and only one finish outside the podium. The teenager showed real maturity when he said: “I’ve been doing well with being consistent… Now, I’ve kind of calmed down and just everything come to me and it’s worked out a lot better.” His blistering speed through the whoops and ultra-smooth racecraft have been turning heads all year long — and tonight they helped crown a champion!
In Philly, Davies qualified second-fastest behind local hero Seth Hammaker. He put on a masterclass in the main event: he grabbed the lead early, stayed cool through the chaos (including a red flag restart), and powered across the line for his fifth win of the 2026 season. Even with Hammaker charging hard after an early crash and a late push on the final lap, Davies’ intelligent, controlled ride was more than enough.
Philadelphia 250SX East Main Event Top 3:
1. Cole Davies (Yamaha)
2. Daxton Bennick (Husqvarna)
3. Seth Hammaker (Kawasaki)
At just 18 years old (born August 28, 2007), Davies has become one of the most exciting young champions in recent 250SX East history — often noted as the youngest since Trey Canard and younger than when stars like Jett Lawrence or Haiden Deegan won their first titles. The kid from a small New Zealand town with limited supercross tracks absolutely dominated the junior nationals, exploded onto the scene in 2025 by finishing 3rd overall in 250SX West as a rookie, and then joined the powerhouse Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team. In 2026 he racked up multiple wins — including a flawless Triple Crown sweep at Indianapolis — all thanks to that silky-smooth, precise riding style that looks ready for anything.
This title isn’t just a trophy — it’s the explosive payoff of incredible talent, nonstop hard work, and ice-cold composure under pressure. Even though Philadelphia was Hammaker’s home track, Davies made it his moment, locking in the East #1 plate heading into the final East/West Showdown in Salt Lake City.
From the roar of the engines to the flying roost and the stories that matter most — this is exactly why I live for race day! Cole Davies has just written his name in the record books as a professional champion at only 18 years old. The future is bright, the hype is real, and I cannot wait to see what this Kiwi superstar does next!
Catch you at the next gate drop,
Paige Turner
